All Calm on the Expo Park Front

The John Argue Swim Stadium was open for swimming today, which made me very happy because the last few times I wanted to go, they were closed (NFL games, USC Football, and music festivals shut down the park because more than 25,000 people attend!). So I was very happy to hear they were open for business today.

I arrived around 2:30 pm and there were only four people swimming in the lap pool. It was so quiet! I am always able to swim in my own lane when I visit, but it was unusually quiet today. By the time I finished an hour later, it was down to myself and one other person. I’d be surprised if anyone else got in after I left.

On the one hand, I love a quiet, stress-free swimming environment, but on the other I can only imagine they lost money today. Lifeguards outnumbered swimmers and pools aren’t exactly the cheapest things to keep going. I do hope that summer days make up for any loss on operations, and I’m sure that it was quiet because it is the Saturday before Christmas, because I don’t want to see this pool become seasonal (only open during summers).

Today’s workout was mellow and relaxed. It was a good follow-up to yesterday morning’s swim. I worked in a little bit of stroke work towards the very end, and I spent a fair amount of time with the kickboard.
