Just Another Swim in Paradise

After several days of running, and eating, drinking, and being lazy, today’s swim felt amazing. During the week, the Culver Plunge is open for public lap swimming from 5:30 am - 2:00 pm. Besides the Santa Monica Swim Center, I believe this is the longest stretch of lap swimming time available to the public. And, they keep it set up in the long lane format!

I spent the morning catching up on emails then went for what felt like a totally indulgent swim at 11:00 am. The pool had a few swimmers in each lane, so not crowded at all. The weather has been deliciously crisp in Los Angeles, so even though the water was on the warm side, I didn’t feel overheated at all.

I was able to really take my time on the laps. I started off a little slow and then worked up to a really good pace. I decided to work in a long kick set and I really felt the burn in my glutes and hamstrings, so I will have to keep that up. Here’s the workout:

  • 600 freestyle

  • 6 x 100 kick, with fins, on 1:45

  • 100 pull, 100 free, 100 pull, 100 free

  • 200 pull

  • 2 x 150; 50 breast, 50 back, 50 free

  • 100 free, easy
