Wednesday Evening SCAQ Swim

Oh…HAI!

I find it funny that the last post I shared was about a workout with butterfly, and my first post of 2018 is about a butterfly workout. I guess fly can both kill and enliven a person?

Today’s swim was both a hard swim and the first of a new year. It was also great. I can only hope that is going to be a theme of 2018: my self-proclaimed Year of Change (YOC).

What does that mean, anyway…YOC. I don’t even know right now, but I suppose I get something to think about during all my 2018 swims, right? Does it mean I’ll be totally comfortable swimming a 50 fly this year? How about a 100 fly? Maybe. I can only hope for the 100 fly.

While I work on the fly, here are a few other dark, watery, pool pics I took over the last few months. It’s easy to forget about dark winter night swims (especially in outdoor pool), so when they come around, I really have to trust in the ritual of the whole workout. The number of people who come decreases – significantly! – and the water always feels colder that it actually is.

I am keenly monitoring the time of sunset these days, and feel that as the sky gradually lightens each day, more change will come. And perhaps by summer, I will swim a 50 fly without feeling like a drunk starfish.

The Workout:

  • 400 warm up
  • 2 rounds, 75 mix free/fly then 50 free kick
  • 3 200s, 3 150s, 4 100s, mix free/fly
