Saturday Afternoon Swim

May 20, 2017

I haven’t visited the Santa Monica Swim Center in quite some time, for no reason in particular other than it’s been a slow swim month and I’ve also enjoyed swimming at Expo Park’s Argue Swim Stadium. In any case, I was excited to visit and swim there because it really is just such a great pool. The water is always great and feels clean, the pool has that ground level entry so it’s easy to ease in – no jumping or plopping in like at Culver and most City of LA pools, and the locker room facilities are great. My only complaint is there used to be a hair dryer provided and it’s no longer there. Wah wah! I suppose it is so fantastic because the cost of entry is steep: if you don’t live in Santa Monica the cost to enter is double what it costs a resident. In any case, for 20 swims at $110, I can deal with it to have the amenities and access to a fantastic west side pool.

On Monday, my SCAQ swim was amazing, but it caused a flare up in my right trapezius. I was really worried the flare up would inhibit my ability to swim this weekend, but the pain had subsided almost entirely. I started out slow with a constant movement and ended up just swimming 1000 yards right away. It was a really fluid and consistent swim, and I’m really happy with myself for how great it felt. It was all synced, my flip turns felt powerful the entire time, and I’m getting the hang of breathing more often.

My workout pic is a first because it is a photo of me! Hi!
