Sunday Morning SCAQ Swim

March 26, 2017

Monday night SCAQ swims are still cancelled because Culver City is still closed. Two more weekend swims and then back to normal Monday night swims! Last weekend, I went to the Santa Monica Swim Center for my SCAQ swim but apparently, that was a bad, bad, bad thing to do because I don’t normally swim there with SCAQ. So today I visited a pool I have always heard about but have never been to: Loyola Marymount University’s aquatic center.

The first time I heard about this pool was from my first boss, Calvin. Calvin is a significant part of my, well I suppose I could say my adult exercise history. His first influence on me was an invitation to try out the LA Leggers. Five marathons later, I was winding down a bit when I heard he was as well, and had started swimming with SCAQ at the Loyola pool, which he would repeated describe as “FANTASTIC”.

Fast forward 8 years, and there I was. Swimming with SCAQ at Loyola. I was half expecting to see him, but alas, no Calvin. The water was great, and it was a spectacular cloud textured sky that we swam under. Our workout felt a little unstructured but it may have been because the coach was new for me. I am looking forward to the next few Sunday mornings there, for sure.

The Workout:

  • 300 warm up
  • 2 x 100 & 3 x 50 free, twice through
  • 200, 2 x 100, 4 x 50 free
  • 4 x 50, 2 x 100, 200 free
  • 1 x 100 & 2 x 50, four times through
