Saturday Afternoon Swim

March 4, 2017

Today I visited the John Argue Swim Stadium for the first time in a long while. They were closed for several weeks due to a pump failure, and have reopened with access to their recreation pool only. The heater was not working in the fitness pool.

The pool is empty and closed.

The recreation pool is really quite awesome, and is a wonderland for kids and families on hot days. There are lots of water feature that spew water every which way making it almost like a water park. Three lap lanes were set aside for swimmers and two were occupied when I got there. The day was quite overcast and breezy so with the exception of three kids in the water park area, it was just us three lap swimmers.

The unique thing about swimming laps in the rec pool is that the lane is 42 meters long. Not my familiar 25 or the easy to do math with 50, but 42. I spent the first laps doing math in my head. I had to keep starting over because I would realize I didn’t account for the 2 extra meters. I finally got it all straight though. At least the math problems kept my mind off the laps!

The Workout:

  • 16 laps / 672 yard swim
  • 16 laps in sets of four laps; odds pull, events swim/kick
  • 16 laps in 2 sets of 4 and one of 8, 4 is pull, 8 is free
