Monday Night SCAQ Swim

December 5, 2016

After my stellar swim on Saturday, I was expecting this evening’s swim to be extra stellar. Instead, it was awful. Just…awful. My arms felt like big pieces of chicken, my kicking felt like I was flinging spaghetti noodles around, and the water felt thick like cheese fondue.

I have a weird suspicion I cursed myself before the swim. When I came out of the locker room, the first thing I noticed was the string-of-lights Christmas tree that was installed at the top of the Culver City Veterans Memorial building. I immediately wondered why the lights were not set up to reach all the way down to the building’s roof, because the lights made the tree look stunted. The thought was not particularly charitable, so I wondered if one of the ghosts of Christmas realigned my karmic mind. I will think very fond thoughts about the string-of-lights Christmas tree next Monday evening to see if my swim is better. Fingers. Are. Crossed.
