Flirting with 1:40

This week’s swimming has been really, really, REALLY good. I’m so grateful and happy and even felt a bit like my old self. The Culver City Plunge is closed this week and next for “spring cleaning” (why couldn’t they have done that while they were closed for months and months during quarantine!?!) so I’m swimming exclusively at El Segundo. Another sign that we are entering the after times: traffic is way worse. I think schools are getting back to business so I’m guessing that’s the primary reason.

Saturday’s swim had me inspired to try no fins, even though I was placed in a faster lane that I’m usually in. I had my lane mate pace and it was just so incredible and natural. I think it also gave me a bit of a confidence boost that I could swim with no fins and meet the intervals for each distance. I was swimming 50s in :45, 75s in 1:15, and 100 in 1:40. WOOOOO!!! My first swim back I was around 2:10. That’s a big jump so my body will probably hang out in this area for awhile. But if it can hang with no fins then even better.
