Mile High Swimming in Colorado
I have been in Colorado the last few days visiting family Denver and Boulder. One of my cousin’s got married in Denver and we followed that up with a short family reunion in Boulder. I was able to set aside some time to go for a swim in Boulder – twice!
The first swim was initially nerve-wracking because I didn’t know how my body would behave while exercising in a mile-high city. The previous few days in Denver included a short bike ride and several climbs up and down stairs, and I was winded after those. I was hoping to get at least 1,000 meters in.
I decided to visit the Spruce pool, a seasonal outdoor pool located near the downtown heart of Boulder. It was a very hot and dry day, so I arrived to a pool full of families and kiddos splashing in the rec pool, and a lovely lap lane pool with exactly one person in each lane.
I saw the lanes on each end were wider than the middle ones, so I chose the one with a bit of shade, and dropped on in. The water felt delicious, and I ended up swimming just over 2,000 meters. After getting out I headed to the locker room to discover one of the nicest swim showers I’ve been in. And this is a seasonal pool!
The next day I visited the South Boulder Recreation Center’s indoor pool. I suppose this is technically a natatorium. While I prefer outdoor pools, I was happy to be protected from the sun with a roof, and there was plenty of day light so the space did not fee claustrophobic. Like the day before, I swam just over 2,000 meters.
I was so happy to find time to swim while travelling. I need to make this more of a priority on future travels…I’m excited to figure out where to go in New Zealand!
