Finless Friday Isn't Fun

Fins make me go fast. About 25 seconds faster per 100 meters than if I swam without them. Who wouldn’t want that speed?! A few weeks ago, I decided that I would swim using my own power (no fins!) on Fridays, because I was getting too comfortable using them. I would have them on for an entire workout, and I feel like that isn’t something I want to do if I expect myself to get stronger on my own.

Without fins I swim 100 free in about 2:10 on long course and 1:45 on short short course. WITH fins, I’m at 1:50 long course and 1:25 short course. So you can see the advantage they give me. If you’re wondering why the time differences between long and short course, it’s the opportunity for two more streamlines off the wall when doing the short course (i.e. 4 laps of 25 instead of 2 laps of 50).

So today comes along, and it is Friday, so I leave the fins in the car. I jump into the pool and start warming up, and then Coach gives us the first set. For everyone wearing fins, they make the intervals and get a bit of rest in between the distances. For me, I swim a straight 800 free. Wah wah!
