SwimLA and A Visit to Van Nuys
Well, today just worked out so well! I was in Toluca Lake visiting a garden for a class I am taking, and when that finished up, I was able to head over to the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks pool for a swim. It has been a very, very, VERY!, long time since my last visit, and it was a really warm day - mid 80s! - so I was super excited to jump in.
It turns out that June 8 was the opening day of the summer season at all LA pools, so they were giving everyone free admission. Awesome just got more awesome! I snapped a pic, and posted in on Insta per usual, and wrote in the caption about opening day. I tagged SwimLA and the Van Nuys pool, and both re-posted my photo and caption! It truly made my day.
FYI, “SwimLA ensures that young Angelenos between the ages of 4 and 17 have more opportunities to learn how to swim. With support from partners, the program expands summer pool hours increasing the number of swim classes available to youth, and grants thousands of scholarships to families who demonstrate financial need.
SwimLA is part of a broader effort by Mayor Garcetti to ensure that the City of Los Angeles remains healthy and active as it prepares to host one of the most anticipated sporting games in the world -- the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. SwimLA is made possible by support from key sponsors — including LA28, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, and the LA84 Foundation.”
